Sharks Take Double Bite Out
of Merchants

The Ketchikan Merchants Baseball Club traveled to Puyallup, Washington
to the land of the Sharks - the South Sound Sharks baseball team
that is - to play a double header on Thursday. Game one saw Casey
Bass start out a little wild but Bass settled down to pitch a
good game. Bass gave up 5 hits, 4 walks, 3 earned runs and struck
out 5 Sharks' batters. Head Coach Fred Bass reported it was a
good game considering Ketchikan committed 5 errors and left 6
men on base. The Ketchikan Merchants hit the ball better but
South Sound Sharks pitching struck out 5. Ketchikan had several
hard hit balls.
Final score of game one: South
Sound Sharks 4 and Ketchikan Merchants 1.
In game two of the double header
against the South Sound Sharks, Matt Way of the Ketchikan Merchants
pitched. Way gave up 9 hits, 8 walks, 5 earned runs and struck
out 9. Ketchikan Manager and Head Coach Fred Bass noted the second
game could have been much closer as Ketchikan had 7 hits, 3 earned
runs, and left 6 men on base but committed 7 errors with 5 on
routine plays.
Final score: South Sound Sharks
9 and Ketchikan Merchants 3.
