The 'First Peoples of the
Tongass' centennial celebration event held on Sunday, August
18, 2002, honored the original residents of the Tongass. A public
gathering at City Park led off
From noon until evening, Tlingit,
Haida and Tsimshian & guests then went to the Civic Center
for dancing, traditional foods and speeches by Native leaders.
Tongass Tribe and Cape Fox
dancers were the host dance groups.
