'Quilting In The Rain XII' Show A Success February 19, 2003 Ketchikan, Alaska - Quilting
in the Rain XII attracted quilting and art enthusiasts
from far and wide. The Show boasted a stunning 215 Quilts and
was visited by an enthusiastic, nearly 800 strong audience. There
were twelve display categories ranging from Miniature to Bed
Size quilts and from Youth Made to Group quilts. Quilt owners
allowed the quilt makers to display their creations for all to
enjoy. Former Guild members, even in their absence, sent quilts
for display from far away. Throughout the two-day Show, family
members could be heard to exclaim, "There's the Quilt my
Mother (or Grandmother) made for me!" or Rainy Day Quilters Guild members began preparing the show on Wednesday the 12th of February, and were ready to show off their beautiful works of art on Saturday and Sunday. Quilts were contributed by member quilters, as well as by many other area residents who enjoy quilting. At least 10 Heirloom quilts were on display. According to the Rainy Day Quilters, while nearly all guild members contributed time and energy to make this show a success, the organizers Nancy Mitchel, Quilt Show Chairperson and Vice-President, and Guild co-presidents, Dena Conley and Mary Jo Erickson were the driving forces behind the overwhelming success of this show. The coveted, nearly all blue
Raffle Quilt, was one center of attraction at the Show. It was
