The ever gracious and friendly Ramona Ferry - who many fondly remember from the days of the Ferry's Food Store - recently opened "Collectibles" in a building rich in history. The historic building housing the Collectibles shop located at 1216 Water Street was built in 1939, remodeled in 1969, and purchased by Ferry several years ago. Over its history a variety of businesses have occupied the building. During times when the building was vacant, Ramona Ferry and friends held group garage sales in the building. As times passed, Ferry's garage sale leftover items grew in number becoming the basis for her new store, "Collectibles". Ferry says she enjoys the opportunity the shop provides for visiting with shoppers and browsers. When asked what she considers the most unusual item in her store, she pointed out an armadillo purse. As for the oldest item in the shop, she pointed to the counter and remarked that it had been the counter in the Ferry's Food Store which operated from 1928 until her late husband's retirement. As the writer was leaving, Ferry was observed assisting two men from California who were looking for an Alaska coke bottle - which Ramona Ferry just happened to have in the back of the shop to their delight. The sign on the front door best expresses the relaxing and friendly atmosphere of Ferry's shop, "We will be closed if we are not open. If we are not OPEN come back at high tide".
