Ketchikan, Alaska - From start to finish, about twenty people participated in a 'Support Our Troops - Yellow Ribbons Rally' which was held on Friday, April 04, 2003. The downtown tunnel rally was organized by Arlindo Machado and participants handed yellow ribbons out to people interested in displaying them. Yellow ribbons are symbols of hope for the safe return of our troops from the war in Iraq and show support for our American troops. Yellow ribbons also express to the troops' wives and families that Americans care for their sons and daughters who are in service to our country.

Some drivers passing by also slowed and made brief stops reaching out for yellow ribbons; however, after the group was approached by two Ketchikan City Police cars with sirens loudly sounding and instructed to cease interfering with traffic or the group would be dispersed, the participants no longer provided ribbons to drivers passing by the group.
