The training was provided by instructors Jim Mongold and Dan Grimms from Fairbanks International Airport and Kelly Leamer from Capitol City Fire and Rescue in Juneau. The five day aircraft fire fighting training included three days of classroom instruction and a half day at the Ketchikan International Airport. The half day spent at Ketchikan International Airport was to familiarize those participating with the airport's equipment, aircraft and the facility. In addition, hands-on fire fighting training was held over the weekend. Topics addressed in the training included fire fighting techniques, kinds of fire suppression, chain of command and hazardous materials. On Saturday from 1-4 pm and Sunday from 9 am-4 pm the hands-on aircraft fire fighting training was held at the Ward Cove upper parking lot. Saturday's training provided instruction in basic outside aircraft fire fighting with the personnel operating the water cannon truck to extinguish simulated aircraft fires. Sunday's training involved using foam to extinguish simulated engine fires and also included training in extinguishing fires in the interior of a simulated aircraft. All fire fighters completing the training were certified for basic aircraft fire fighting. ![]() ![]() Center White helmets: Asst. Chief Hill, & Asst.
