Once again, the Rainy Day Quilters Guild is participating in a Community Service Project, this time with the focus being the residents of The Pioneer Home. Members of the Guild sewed and quilted approximately 30 bavoirs for Pioneer Home residents. The bavoirs were presented to residents on Wednesday, December 4th, just in time for Christmas.

Cathy Tillotson, Chairperson of the Community Service Committee, said that this year the committee continues to be very active, with donations being made monthly to WISH, including 60 pillow cases in October, a food basket donated to The Salvation Army at Thanksgiving, and now the 'neck napkins' donations for The Pioneer Home.

Last year, donations of baby quilts were made to Ketchikan General Hospital, and quilts were donated to clients of the Department of Youth and Family Services. Each year the Guild donates quilts to the First City Cancer Auction. Additionally, several individual members made a quilt that was donated to the Alaska Women in Timber at the Alaska Forest Association Convention.

The purpose of the Rainy Day Quilters Guild is to promote cooperation and exchange of ideas among quilters, to instruct members in methods and techniques, to inspire personal achievement, and to encourage and maintain high standards of design and technique in quiltmaking. The Guild is a non-profit organization and has flourished for over 20 years. This year there are approximately 90 members in the Guild, and new members are always welcome. This year's Co-Presidents are Mary Jo Erickson and Dena Conley. The Guild generally meets at Holy Name Church on the 4th Tuesday of every month, with some variation depending on major holidays. There are also sub-groups meeting throughout the month, devoted to particular quilting interests, such as Miniatures, Applique, Paper Piecing and Friday Freeloaders.

Information about how to become a member of the Rainy Day Quilters is available at The Silver Thimble.
