Senator Ted Stevens on Thursday announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration have released over $180,000 in grants to the North Pole and Ketchikan Fire Departments.

"I'm pleased that both FEMA and the U.S. Fire Administration have released these funds to enhance basic fire service delivery in our State," Stevens said. "It is important to provide our fire departments with the right tools to be able to do their jobs safely and more efficiently."

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program was designed as an opportunity to support fire protection, EMS delivery, vehicle purchase, and prevention programs.

The grants are as follows:

  • $117,772 to the North Pole Fire Department
  • $67,104 to the Ketchikan Fire Department
