raising, as well as a variety of other learning experiences.

In order to host this conference one of the requirements is that the local Youth Court fund five meals and a band from local donations. The Ketchikan Youth Court has been fortunate to receive generous on-going support from the Ketchikan community for supplies and youth travel over the last four years.

The Ketchikan Youth Court is motivated to raise the funds required for hosting this conference. This is the first time Southeast has had the opportunity to host the state conference and the local members would greatly appreciate any assistance. The Ketchikan Youth Court has worked very hard to keep the local program running. Members realize that everything is not for free and the members are willing to work in the community to raise the funds for the conference.

As one example of a fund raising activity, the Ketchikan Youth Court members have been diligently meeting at the Ketchikan Regional Youth Facility to cut, chop, haul, and stack wood and have delivered 14 cords of wood over the past two months. The wood was generously donated to the fund raising project by the Ketchikan Regional Youth Facility. Rain or shine, members worked and hauled wood each Saturday.

One youth court member said, " I've been working really hard to get to the wood hauling every Saturday and it made me feel good that I worked hard for the community."

The local Youth Court has handled 64 cases, offenders have completed 900 hours of

community service, and youth court members have volunteered over 3,800 hours of their own time to the program. The Ketchikan Youth Court is off to a great start and wants to sustain this program and the members are looking forward to hosting the up-coming 6th Annual State Youth Court Conference in October.

The Ketchikan Youth Court members have created a web-site, newsletter, and worked to establish good working relationship with the court system. To learn more about the Youth Court, visit their web site.
