Ketchikan Merchants - Games Update

Ketchikan Merchants 8 - Edmonds Falcons 7

Friday's game in Edmonds, Washington saw Charles Altman of the Ketchikan Merchants pitch a complete game with Ketchikan 8 to 2 in the 7th when the Falcons made a come back but Ketchikan held on for the win.

Ketchikan Merchants' Manager and Head Coach Fred Bass reported that Ketchikan scored 8 run on 10 hits committed 2 errors and left 6 men on base. For the Edmonds Falcons they had 7 runs on 10 hits and left 8 men on base.

Bass said Altman scattered those 10 hits and both Ketchikan errors were committed in the 7th. Altman pitched a good game only walking 3 and striking out 4.

 

Red Robin 6 - Ketchikan Merchants 4

Saturday's game against the Red Robins was played in Bellevue, Washington. Bass reported that this 9 am game saw Jeret Erickson of the Ketchikan Merchants pitch another good game for the Ketchikan staff.

According to information provided by Manager & Head Coach Fred Bass, Erickson gave up 6 hits, 6 runs, 3 earned. He struck out 1, allowed 1 walk, and Red Robin left 6 runners on base.

The Ketchikan Merchants had 4 runs on 8 hits, no strike outs, and left 6 men on base. Red Robin scored 5 runs in the first off 3 hits and 2 Ketchikan errors. After the first, Erickson and the defense shut Red Robin down. Ketchikan scored 4 runs but were unable to get the hit at the right time to tie the game.

Red Robin won 6 to 4 over the Ketchikan Merchants. Coach Bass remarked, "The game was played on a fake grass field made of ground up tires. It had been raining hard but the field drained quickly and was wonderful to play on, Southeast Alaska could use fields like this."

 

Burien Blazer Cubs 5 - Ketchikan Merchants 1

Sunday's first game was played in Mt. Vernon, Washington against the Burien Blazer Cubs. Head Coach Bass reported that Brandon Pahang after not playing for 2 weeks pitched another good game for the Ketchikan Merchants. Pahang allowed 4 hits, 5 runs, 3 earned, struck out 3 and the Burien Blazer Cubs left 6 men on base.

Head Coach Fred Bass remarked, "The Ketchikan Merchants had 5 hits but could only manage 1 run while 5 Merchants struck out and we left 9 on base." Ketchikan committed 1 error that led to 3 runs for the Cubs. Bass reported, "Ketchikan's defense was good at time as Pahang picked of 4 runners at first and the infield tagged runners out after 5 pickles. Never seen that many in one game before and we got them all."

 

Burien Blazer Cubs 3 - Ketchikan Merchants 2 ( in 9 innings)

Sunday's second game in Mt. Vernon, Washington against the Burien Blazer Cubs was a back and forth game according to Head Coach Bass. Ryan Hendricks started on the mound for Ketchikan. After a 1,2,3 in the first inning and with 1 out in second inning, Hendricks could not find the plate and walks scored 2 runs for the Burien Blazer Cubs.

Brandon Eubanks was called in to pitch for the Ketchikan Merchants. Coach Bass reported Eubanks pitched 7 strong innings giving up 6 hits and striking out 6. The Ketchikan Merchants had 2 runs on 7 hits, left 6 men on base, but had 10 strike outs, 5 looking. Bass said, "In the bottom of the 9th, Burien had a runner on second with 2 outs and the batter hit a short pop fly down the third base line that dropped between third and left, Altman threw to home for a close play but the runner was safe. Game over."

Bass reported that the next game for the Ketchikan Merchants is Monday. He said there were 30 Ketchikan people at the games against the Burien Blazer Cubs and thanked Ketchikan for all the support.
