Ketchikan - The Ketchikan Indian Community Tribal Council on Monday selected Georgianna Zimmerle from a field of qualified applicants to fill the top administrative post

at the 4,845 member federally recognized Indian Tribe.

As General Manager of KIC, Zimmerle will be responsible for a $14 million annual budget and coordinating eight departments, including the KIC/Saxman Tribal Health Clinic at 2960 Tongass Avenue. Zimmerle was most recently the Ketchikan Gateway Borough Manager from 1996 to 2001 after serving in the Borough Clerk's office from 1974 to 1996. She joined KIC in April of 2003 as Housing Director.

KIC employs 120 people in the health clinic (medical, dental, contract health, physical therapy and diabetes services) education, economic development, finance, housing, social services, employment training and welfare assistance departments.

Reflecting on her past Zimmerle said that she grew up living across the street from the original KIC office building at 429 Deermount, which started as the Indian School back in the 1950's when her older sister attended high school there. That building eventually became the ANB/ANS Hall where her family attended many dinners and celebrations with the local Native community. Zimmerle attended Sheldon Jackson School at Sitka and received an Associate of Arts degree at Ketchikan Community College. "Throughout my life, I have cultivated an abiding respect and understanding as well as devotion to the lifestyle and quality of Alaska's Native community", she stated recently.

KIC President Stephanie Rainwater-Sande said that the Tribal Council was pleased with the caliber of applicants for the General Manager position and are looking forward to working with Georgianna Zimmerle.
