![]() Fine Art Show and Music Fest, May 23-25, 2003 April 23, 2003
On Friday, May 23rd the Second Annual Quilt Show will be displaying a large variety of quilts. The show will run through Sunday. Activities at the Craig Community Center, where most of the events will take place, feature mini art classes during the day and the Marathon,s Spaghetti Dinner at 5 PM. The Marathon is scheduled to start at 9 AM on Saturday, May 24th. Artist's booths will be open at Noon. Included in the day's activities will be mini-art classes and Native dancing. The Marathon Awards Ceremony is at 5 PM followed by the Wine and Beer Garden at 7 PM with the Wearable Art Show following at 8 PM. During the show, there will be an Art Auction with the proceeds going to the Marathon Committee. Live music will conclude the evening's activities. The Wearable Art Show is a whimsical extravaganza of functional or not so functional clothing, from the experimental to decadent to interactive 3-D art. It's art in motion, going to the extremes, creating illusions, and bending the rules of clothing design. It,s every artist,s chance to run wild with their imagination and unleash their creativity. There will be cash prizes for winning entries judged by the audience. In keeping with the Marathon event, the theme is "Run For Your Lives! Sunday, May 25th, artist's booths will be open from 11 AM to 3 PM. During that time, a Jazz Brunch will feature various local jazz groups. Brunch will be served with interaction from the Prince of Wales Players. Co-committee spokesperson, Grace Kirkwood said, "There is so much talent on Prince of Wales Island and we want to showcase it to the rest of the world during our International Marathon Weekend. We have already gotten a great response from many people around the Island and in Ketchikan. We are looking to make this an annual event and bring more activities to our International Marathon. Michael Queen, co-committee spokesman adds, "It is my hope that, in these days of our declining timber and commercial fishing industries, Prince of Wales might realize an economic renaissance synonymous with the absolute finest in Alaskan art and music." The Fine Arts Show and Sale, Music Fest and Wearable Art Show will be held at the Craig Community Association on Friday, May 23rd, Noon to 8, Saturday, May 24th, Noon to 8 PM, Sunday, May 25th, 11 AM to 3 PM.
